IWBF Women’s Repechage

 

The Asue Arena in Osaka, Japan, witnessed a whirlwind of emotions from April 17th to 20th, 2024, as the IWBF Women’s Repechage tournament unfolded. This high-stakes competition served as the final qualifying chance for teams vying for a coveted spot at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Four nations – Germany, Japan, Spain, and Canada – emerged victorious, securing their Paralympic dreams. The tournament format saw intense competition, with each team showcasing their grit and determination on the court.

For Germany, their dominance was undeniable. They defeated Australia in the final game with a convincing score of 70-33. Canada followed suit, showcasing their offensive prowess with an 88-30 win against Algeria.

The host nation, Japan, also had a reason to celebrate. They secured their Paralympic berth after a hard-fought battle against Thailand in the finals (50-35). Spain completed the quartet of qualifiers with a decisive victory over Thailand (76-35).

The IWBF Women’s Repechage not only determined Paralympic participants but also highlighted the exceptional talent within women’s wheelchair basketball. The fast-paced action, strategic plays, and unwavering sportsmanship displayed by the athletes captivated audiences worldwide.

Basketball fans can now eagerly anticipate these four teams battling it out on the Paralympic stage in Paris. With the Repechage chapter closed, the Paralympic journey for Germany, Japan, Spain, and Canada officially begins!
